About

The World’s Got Problems is a hyperlink-rich column of news and analysis, illustrated with digital collage. Written and illustrated by Jason Rosencrantz.

As the bombs started falling on Afghans on October 7, 2001, Jason was a graduate student in Philosophy at the University of Washington, whereupon he realized he was being paid by the State to direct student attention away from the most pressing ethical and philosophical issues of the time.

He spent the years leading up to the re-election of W. Bush in 2004 reporting for Pacifica Station KPFK in Los Angeles.

Since then, he has been writing and making art.

Here are some guiding principles, presented in the form of quotes:

All significant concepts of the modern theory of the state are secularized theological concepts.

- Carl Schmitt

Your Honor, years ago I recognized my kinship with all living beings, and I made up my mind that I was not one bit better than the meanest on earth. I said then, and I say now, that while there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free.

- Eugene V. Debs

Our country was murdering millions of people, actually the number is somewhere between three and five million people. This revelation was more than we could handle. We didn’t know what to do about it. It was too great a fact. Every second of my life from 1965 to 1975 I was always aware that our country was attacking Vietnam. I could be up in the mountains. I’d be thinking about the war in Vietnam. I could be taking an acid trip and I’d be thinking about the war in Vietnam.

-Mark Rudd

Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither.

- attributed to Benjamin Franklin

It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!
